Hunk o' the Month!

One of our own, Brendon Heron, is vying for Hunk! of the Month for Hunk! magazine in world. Hunk of the month is chosen by votes, so Brendon is sending out the alert that he needs votes!

You can vote here: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Hawkeye/154/181/25

There are two rooms and he's in the second one, sort of center of the second row from the bottom.

WARNING: The displays include full nudity and voting is done with lindens, so its not free to vote, but even a single linden will help :)

Flickr photos added!

Our own Georgi Beaumont sent me a couple of lovely snaps of the moon over SkyBeam Stillwater and they have been posted to our Flickr group! Click the link on the right hand menu to go take a look!

If you have a Flickr Account, please add me (Charlene Trudeau) as a contact request and let me know if you want to be a member of the SkyBeam group so you can upload your own and add them to the group album!

More and more sales...

The sale has been a smashing success with only one property remaining that is owned by the estate. I'm trying to acquire a second to ease someone on their exit out of the estates.

Big welcomes to everyone new who has joined us and my thanks to everyone who has expanded!

Sale Update

The sale continues. So far several of you have added to your holdings and I'm thrilled to announce that we've also added two new additions to our family! Yay! I'd welcome you by names, but I'm uncertain how uncouth it might be, especially for a private resident, to have their home location blogged about!

And in case you're wondering why the list doesn't seem to be getting any shorter... I am using sale proceeds to buy out a few folks whose real lives are calling them away from us and am adding parcels as I go (yeah, do the math... buy back at 80% of orig, sell at 50% of orig... lol, some business woman I am!).

I hope any of you who know anyone who might be looking for a new home have told them about the sale. Please remember that any parcel that is just too large can be cut into smaller parcels to accommodate sales. I will also work with folks on zero interest payment plans!

Land Sale!

SkyBeam Estates is having a land sale!

Effective immediately and continuing through Jan 29, all parcels are marked 50% off the original sales price (tier not included)! This is a great time to upgrade if you're looking to expand or have a friend that's really liked the place but has been waffling about spending the money!

For those of you with land for sale privately, please feel free to contact me about what I'm up to here and how it effects you.

Relay For Life - Teams forming!!!

Teams are forming now for the event and the target goal is to have fifty teams across the width and breadth of Second Life. Many existing teams are established and have great fund raising strategies and bases already established. This should *not* discourage anyone from putting together a team and doing their part!

The full information can now be found in the estate office (such as it is right now), at each tier board and on the SkyBeam Sandbox.

If you don't want to head a team, but would like to participate in one, please contact Tayzia Abbatoir or Seaway Brody in world (or use their email addresses listed in the notecard!

As mentioned in a prior post, I will not be heading a Relay For Life team for SkyBeam Estates. This is entirely because my responsibilities as the chairperson's special assistant are a big unknown entity for me. However, if anyone out there wanted to run a team in SkyBeam Estates name, I will give full support in terms of areas to host events, ideas, guidance, counsel and so forth.

Green dots are good!

I've been hearing murmurs about not wanting to upset me with lots of people at an event now and then and I wanted to take a moment to shout:

GREEN DOTS ARE GOOD!

Ok, I feel better now. Everyone, commercial or residential, should feel free to host events, parties or the like. On residential regions these should be parties or balls without commerce in mind, while for the commercial regions these could be special sales or whatever to promote your event.

Please feel free to have all the events and parties you want! And if you want them listed here on the blog or on the event boards throughout the regions, just drop a notecard to Nevar Lobo or me!

Relay For Life Kiosk Design Contest!

As our first step in approaching the 2008 SL Relay For Life (SLRFL’08), the Relay For Life committee is sponsoring a design contest for the donation kiosk to be used for this year’s event. This kiosk will be seen in high and low traffic areas throughout SL.

I invite all of you to take a moment to consider if this is one way in which you might be suited to giving to this worthwhile event. Even if you have not built anything before, or feel your talents ‘aren’t good enough’, I challenge you to Fight Back! To take a step forward and past your own preconceptions of your abilities and to attempt this project regardless.

The last two years’ kiosks were remarkably similar in design and I know that SL is capable of better than ‘variation on a theme’. We are a creative world, some of the most creative and innovative I’ve seen in one relatively small community. I would be really proud if someone from our micro-community here were to take this prize!

Details for the contest can be found on SkyBeam Sandbox, at each of the tier boards, or by clicking the following image.

Relay For Life!

Each year the American Cancer Society holds a huge fundraiser out in the Real World. It is considered their ‘signature activity’ and offers everyone in a community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. Teams of people camp out at a school, park or fairground ant take turns walking or running around a track or path overnight and up to 24 hours in length. Please see http://www.relayforlife.org for more real world information.

In Second Life, we have a virtual model of this event. Last year we raised $117,985 USD in world. The walk took place on over 30 regions and had participation by no less than 40 teams. The website for SLRFL is http://www.slrfl.org/ .

The track itself is fascinating to walk and off-track designers from across SL donate their time to build amazing regions to explore and many events and activities are held throughout.

The theme this year is Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back!

It is sometimes difficult to find a person whose life has not yet been shadowed by this disease, directly or indirectly. I lost my mother to pancreatic cancer just over four years ago. I relay for her, I relay so no one else has to walk that mile in my shoes with their own mother, sister, brother or other loved one.

You will hear a lot about Relay over the coming months. It is inevitable as I am the chairman’s special assistant. I am not coordinating a team and the fund-raising events that would be associated with it, as a result. Anyone who is interested in participating, by heading a team or joining one, please feel free to contact Tayzia Abbatoir or SeaWay Brodsky, the team committee chairpersons, in world.

Pando Square Mall

For those not aware, SkyBeam Estates has a mainland region as part of its overall holdings. I opened the mall a little over two years ago in partnership with Tai Ming who later sold out her holdings. Over the two years the mall has grown to encompass the entire region. It is a snowy region year round and boasts the finest collection of ice sculptures in all of Second Life.

At this time, I would like to make a standing offer to any SkyBeam Estate resident who chooses to open a shop or satellite location in Pando Square Mall of two weeks free rent upon initial four week rental. Anyone who doesn't have a shop, or not one they feel is suited for the mall experience, but refers someone who rents a shop will get a finders fee (just remember to IM or drop a notecard on me that you're sending someone or I won't know who to give credit to!).

And, if none of the above applies, do please come see the ice sculptures and browse around a little. I'd welcome any ideas for improving the mall's overall experience!

Because Laughter is the best Medecine!

As SL is a bit rocky today with the prep and beginning of rolling restarts and server side updates, here's a bit of SL humour to brighten your day/evening/morning/afternoon/night (as applicable!)...

SkyBeam HQ & Community Center

The current sorry excuse for a SkyBeam Estates headquarters is scheduled for a complete rebuild. Future plans include incorporating some current elements such as parcels for sale and a map overview of the estates, with new community center style elements. It is planned that the community center space be available for community events or other events hosted by members of the community.

My current thoughts are for this to have some lounge type area, an area that can be re-purposed on the fly for dances or meetings, and possibly a pool/spa area. There will also be visible spaces made along the outer perimeter for placing ad-boards for upcoming events.

Please feel free to IM Nevar Lobo or myself with any thoughts, ideas, suggestions for this project or any events or other community related concepts!

Um… Target completion date, you ask? Um… February?

*hugs*

Upcoming Events

Currently scheduled upcoming events for February:

SkyBeam Community Yard Sale – Feb 9-10
We have a community yard sale scheduled for the 9th and 10th of February. The sale will run 24 hours a day for the two days, with setup on the 8th. More details will follow as we get closer to the event, but start organizing any items you just know you’ll never use again in preparation for the sale! Personally, I could probably run a sale for a month and not run out of things to sell off!

Leap Day Ball – Feb 29
We’re going to have a formal ball on February 29 in honor of our extra day this year! Actually, we’re going to have TWO! Because we have so many folks in different time zones, we’ll hold the first one from 1pm to 3pm and the second one from 7pm to 10pm! I hope this helps everyone find a time they can attend and have some fun! More details when we get closer!

I’d like to see some more events fill in for February (January too!). Feel free to pass along any information about events you are hosting within the estates to Nevar Lobo or myself and we’ll get them listed here and on the estate Google calendar (link on right hand menu on this page, also links to the in-world event boards at each tier payment board).

We’ve had a call for progressive tour events so that we can all see each other’s homes/properties and I’d like to see the residents of one region at a time come together and help plan each region’s event. Calling Scepterd Isle to lead the way as the first SkyBeam Estates region to come online? Coordinate with Nevar and/or myself 

*Hugs*

We had a Party!

We had a Party!

The BBQ & Dance turned into all dance and no BBQ, but it appeared a great time was had by all who were able to attend! It wasn’t intended at the start, but some freebies were handed out… feel free to IM for a copy but, please, be prepared to hear the story that goes with them or I’ll die of embarrassment!

We had an awesome DJ! Thank you, Dakota Christensen! She’s scheduled back for one of our upcoming events (more on that in future posts!) and I expect we’ll get to know her really well! This woman will play *anything* on request and had many challenges to the depth of her collection without failure to produce!

A number of things were announced and discussed at the party, most of which will be covered in rapid succession on separate blog entries for clarity and simplicity. Included topics: Future events such as the community yard sale and Leap Day Ball in February, the new event listing boards in each region (over the tier boards), a planned remodel of the existing SkyBeam Estates HQ (bet many of you didn’t even know we had one!), and encouragement of more events by all throughout the estates.

There was a great suggestion for a future event (Thanks, Georgi!), a progressive tour of each region so we can share our homes and vision with our neighbors! I’d like to see this scheduled as one region at a time and if an owner can’t be present and is willing to allow his/her home/property to be toured, perhaps a neighbor who can be handy can be given the privilege of leading the tour for them. Please feel free to respond to this posting with your thoughts and suggestions on this idea!

All in all, there was much laughter and merriment and I hope the party was just a taste of the fun we will share in the future!

Welcome!

Greetings to anyone who reads this! I’m not accustomed to the blog process so this will be an adventure for me and possibly for anyone reading this! While I enjoy writing, I’m usually loathe to write about myself or what I am doing or have planned, so if this is a little rocky at first, please bear with me!

This blog is dedicated to the SkyBeam Estates Community and will contain information about the events happening throughout the estates, at the community or individual personal and/or business level.

If you have an event you wish to see blogged here (grand opening, special exhibit, party at my place, etc), please send the pertinent information to Nevar Lobo or myself. The same goes for any blog you have related to Second Life which you might want to see linked off ours.

For everyone who has not yet had a chance to meet him, I’ll take this opportunity to introduce Nevar Lobo as the SkyBeam Estates Event Coordinator and my assistant for anything else I need help remembering to do! J Welcome to SkyBeam Estates, Nevar!

I’m going to be posting a number of segmented blog posts over the next day or two, beginning with a brief bit about Sunday’s community event and following with details about items announced during the party.

I hope the blog proves to be a good means of information distribution for everyone within the SkyBeam Estates community and maybe give a window of how wonderful you all are out to the greater Second Life community!

This is a test...

This is only a test. Had there been something to say, I would have...
