There is no doubt about it. SkyBeam (the central region) is on the griefer target list because of the sandbox it hosts. 95% or more of our griefer issues are limited to the Sandbox, but we do get the occasional stray wandering off to harass the neighboring regions.
So, what do we do?
1) Stay calm and don't react to the griefer directly. They thrive on people getting upset, angry, yelling at them, chasing them, and so forth. Zero confrontation. If you simply can't remain calm, TP to another region in the estate or off the estates entirely and move on to step #2 (if you tp away, you may have to skip some of the following steps). NOTE: All residents have the ability, with the SkyBeam Estates group active, to freeze/eject from ALL SkyBeam Estates group land, including the sandbox, estate-wide! Also note that this might just boot them onto a neighbor's parcel, but its better than your power ending at your parcel's border!
2) Call for help on the SkyBeam Estates group channel. If I'm not online, or I am busy with a Relay For Life meeting or other business, this gives all online Estate Managers and Guardians a chance to respond and you the best chance of getting help promptly. PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF WHICH REGION THE PROBLEM IS IN. I can look up which is your home region if I don't happen to remember (taking a few extra precious seconds), but few or none of the guardians or Estate Managers have a clue what region you live in. Remember that all but four of the regions begin with SkyBeam, so if you say 'we have a griefer in SkyBeam', we will automatically go to the Sandbox on the region SkyBeam! If you live in SkyBeam something-else, you are better off saying 'FirstLand' or 'Stillwater', and if you're in SkyBeam Wood, please say its full name as we tend to refer to Apparition Wood, SkyBeam Stillwater, SkyBeam Wood and SkyBeam Everglades all as 'the woods' and we might get confused as to which of the Woods you mean :)
3) Abuse Report the individual. If you don't know how, here's the quick and dirty:
a) Make certain that any chat windows are closed or minimized and any 'edit' of an offending spamming box that might be applicable is open.
b) Open your Help menu from the top of your screen and select 'Report Abuse'.
c) If there is anything to be seen that is applicable to the report such as particle spam, check the box that says 'include screenshot'.
d) On the dropdown for 'Select Category', select Harassment (or whichever category applies if one of the others is a better fit).
e) Click the blue Choose Resident button and find the name of the individual. If you have the edit on one of their items open, you will have easy reference to their name on that window.
f) Enter a short summary and a more detailed description of the incident.
g) Complete the report by clicking 'Report Abuse' at the bottom.
h) Forget about the report. You will never know what action they take. You will get an email in a month or two (or six) that the matter has been investigated and dealt with, but you will never know what action they took, if any.
4) If the person was leaving things on group land and they were not auto-returning, make certain to notify me or Nevar Lobo that the group land in that area might not be set to auto return. I tend to forget to reset this setting on group land after re-cutting parcels for residents. Please also consider setting auto return on your own property. This has the additional benefit of dissuading 'squatters' who will happily use your prims, on the ground or up in the air, until you happen to notice. If you have more than one person using your parcel, you'll need to deed the land to group to do this and set all items to the correct group before you turn it on (or all items not set to group will auto-return!). If you have any questions about this process, please contact Nevar or me and we'll be happy to assist.
5) If you DON'T get assistance with a griefing incident because no guardians or Estate Managers were online, please drop me an offline notecard with as much info as you can, including the time and date the incident took place. This will help me track the hours we might need additional coverage.
A final note: Please do not use any sort of weapons or cages to try to deal with the griefer. There are two reasons for this, the first is covered in #1 above. The second is that when I, or one of the guardians or EMs teleports in, we need to be able to sort out the griefers from the victims at a glance. If you're busy shooting or caging the original attacker, we might well kick you instead of the perpetrator! It might be funny a few days later, but I'm almost certain you'd get a bit upset at being kicked for trying to protect our home!
